Measured Extravagance

While hunting for mentions of Adora Dupree, I came across Pat Arnow's article on Alternate ROOTS - it dates from 1996, but the issues about race, art, and constructive critique strike me as still very much live. [Note: this is not an endorsement of Alternate ROOTS - I don't know enough about the group.]

The last time I talked to Adora was at a wedding earlier this year. I had not known she was ill; she died of lung cancer last week.

And so I asked the light of the day, what's this rush to heaven?
And I saw a bird fly away, and I could not ask again.
