Lunchtime at work: mandarin orange slices on spinach leaves, miniature Kit-Kats in my tote bag, and the November 2000 issue of Wallpaper* (English style magazine - the office subscribes).

Last night: hot sake and sushi at Ken's, with an extra order of sweet shrimp and deep-fried jumbo shrimp heads. Nearly spewed soup all over the table when I overheard a woman at the next table ask if sushi was fattening. Then to our friend P.'s apartment for homemade chocolate cake and tea and conversation.

Looking ahead: winesap apples. Flannel nightgown. Rice milk. Nifty French words like "debroussailler" (to clear).
